Slurr is a Windows dictation app. Default speech-to-text runs on your device. This page describes what stays local and what can leave the machine if you opt in.
On-device dictation
In the default configuration, audio is transcribed locally with an on-device Whisper model. That audio is not uploaded to IAS or to a third-party speech service.
What is stored on your PC
- Settings in Slurr’s folder under
%APPDATA%. - Optional API keys in the operating system keyring, not in the settings file.
- The last transcript in memory / clipboard so you can paste or copy it.
Uninstalling the app from Settings → Apps leaves app data in place.
Optional cloud features
You can turn on cloud speech-to-text or cloud grammar correction and supply your own provider key (for example OpenAI, Groq, or Anthropic). If you do:
- Cloud speech-to-text may send audio to that provider.
- Cloud grammar may send the transcript text to that provider.
Those requests go to the provider you chose, under that provider’s terms. IAS does not receive a copy.
Local grammar
Grammar correction can also run locally (for example via Ollama on your machine). In that mode, transcripts are not sent to a cloud LLM.
Model downloads
Some installs download a speech or grammar model over the network. That is a file download to your PC. It is not an upload of your recordings.
Accounts, cookies, and telemetry
Slurr does not require an account. This website does not set tracking cookies. The app does not phone home with usage telemetry in the current release.
